Shinkyokushinkai Matlosana hosts inter-dojo tournaments regularly where all the Matlosana dojos under WKO Branch Chief Thomas Mayekani come together to compete amongst themselves and they like to call it “LOCAL IS LEKKER”, meaning “local is nice”.
This was the third inter-dojo tournament for 2016. The inter-dojo tournament is part of the Matlosana team development and to give the opportunity to beginners to participate and gather tournament experience. This current tournament was used as team preparation and selection for the upcoming Shinkyokushinkai South Africa National tournament on 02 July 2016 as well as for the preparation of the Karate Dream Festival 2016 International Championship hosted by Japan on 6-7 August 2016.
June is considered a youth month in South Africa. National Youth Day (commonly known as June 16) commemorates the Soweto Uprising that occurred on June 16, 1976. The day is celebrated in order to recognize the role of youth in the liberation of South Africa from the Apartheid regime. Shinkyokushinkai Matlosana youth celebrate the National Youth Day by engaging in sporting activities, hosting and participating in the inter-dojo tournament on this day.
The tournament was successful, a total of 143 fighters participated on the day with the spectators filling the hall to capacity.
We would like to thank all the sponsors, the spectators and the parents who came to support for their contributions in making the event a success.
