On November 13, 2021, a crowd gathered to participate in a commemoration ceremony for Shihan Piyaratne Muthukumarana, who passed away on August 14, 2021.
The commemoration, mainly led by new Sri Lanka Country Representative Baraniwala Ajith Liyanage, was attended by approximately 45 people; his family members along with Ms. Chagishani Muthukumarana, who is a daughter of Shihan Muthukumarana, and those who concerned including the Branch Chiefs and Contacts as well as the members of the WKO Sri Lanka while strict health regulations had to be followed in the face of the rapid growth of COVID-19 in the country.
The separation of Shihan Muthukumarana was an unbelievable sadness.
Participants shared and deepened their memories and feelings for their beloved Shihan in their personal speeches. A video message from President Midori was also shared in the ceremony to praise the merits of Shihan Muthukumarana for Kyokushin Karate.
In closing, Branch Chief Ganga Prasad Dissanayake ended his speech by wishing that the name Shinkyokushin would prevail as Shihan Muthukumarana had hoped.
