Dear Branch Chiefs and Contacts,
There are now only two weeks left until the 10th World Championship.
Here in Tokyo, the preparation work to welcome everyone from around the world is almost complete. This spring, when the earthquake occurred in Eastern Japan, the first thing that came to my mind was whether or not we will be able to conduct this World Championship. However, thanks to the support and cooperation from everyone, this tournament is now about to be held, and I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to this fact.

TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE 10TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
Osu!
Long before I appeared on the movie screens, one of my dreams as a young karateka was to fight in Tokyo’s Budokan Stadium. So I did at the 2nd World Championships in 1979. It was my first real international tournament experience and in the 3rd round I faced the future world champion: Makoto Nakamura. I lost on points after three tough extensions.
After the fight, Sosai Oyama spoke to me and a young exhausted Swedish green belt received tremendous inspiration to pursue his future goals. Not just in karate but in life.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to later visit Japan on numerous occasions and to train under Sosai Oyama. Also, to eventually become a karate champion myself.
Kyokushin karate has taught me many things.
Never to give up. To respect myself and my fellow man. To be humble and pay my respects to my superiors. That you can accomplish anything in life you set out to do.
I believe that if I hadn’t started training karate at the age of 14 under Shihan Brian Fitkin, a shy youngster like me would have never had the guts to go from my small Nordic home-country to Hollywood, California. To become an actor and to stay in a very tough business for 25 years.
Through Kyokushin anything is possible!
It’s a real pleasure for me to have the opportunity to take part in this great event in Tokyo, Japan.
From the depth of my heart, I wish the organizers, all the participants, and especially the fighters of the 10th World Championships the very best of luck!
Sincerely in Shinkyokushin,
Dolph Lundgren, 3rd dan

Dear Branch Chiefs and Contacts,
The World Championship is just around the corner. Tokyo, where this tournament will be held, has started its path towards autumn, overcoming the intense heat that caused major concern in the lack of supply in electricity. Although the frequent aftershocks have started to fade, there still remains a high level of caution. The unity displayed by Japan in our reconstruction efforts, and the fact that we are moving forward, with the memory of those lost in the disaster in our hearts, is a strong point of Japan we can be proud of.

Dear Branch Chiefs and Contacts,
As always, I would like to start my message, by expressing my deepest appreciation and respect to all of you for your dedication and hard work for our WKO.
Here in Japan, we are in the midst of summer. By the time you read this greeting, the Karate Dream Cup, one of the largest events in Japan with over 1,200 participants, will be either ongoing or just have ended.

On June 25th, the the Swiss Open Karate Tournament was held in Luzern.
60 competitors from not only Europe but also Russia and Japan took part in
this tournament, altogether 14 countries.
This tournament is organized every second year by Branch Chief Peter
Steinman, and again this year the WKO President Shihan Midori attended the event.
