On November 10, the 9th South America Karate Shinkyokushin Championship was held in the city of Barueri, São Paulo, Brazil, with the participation of athletes from Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Athletes from Central America (Aruba and Costa Rica) were also invited.
Branch Chief Tadashi Ishihara from Japan also attended the championship, and his pleasant personality, kindness, and abundant knowledge were very much appreciated by all.

In total, there were 125 athletes competed in the following categories: Team Kata, Individual Kata Male, Individual Kata Female, Kumite Youth Female, Kumite Youth Male, Senior, Male -65kg, Male -75kg, Male -85kg, and Male +85kg.

The main category was the women’s weight class, for it was a selection tournament for the 12th World Open Karate Championship which will be held in Japan in 2019.
Djefini Carvalho from Brazil became a champion of this category.

Djefini Carvalho has already participated in the world championship held in 2007, 2011 and 2015. By maintaining her position as a champion, she again stamps her passport for this mission to represent the South America Region at the 12th World Open Karate Championship.
