Topics

The annual Matlosana Cup started in 2012 when sempai Thomas Mayekani, the senior instructor at Matlosana, Klerksdoop, saw the need to develop and promote junior fighters, given that his dojos are made up of 80-90% junior members. The idea was approved and supported by Shihan Isaac Mashinini. In 2012, only junior fighters participated in the 1st Matlosana Cup, however senior karate-kas gained interest and the 2nd Matlosana Cup included senior categories for both male and female. Since 2012, the Matlosana Cup continues to grow every year and attracts fighters from all corners of South Africa and other organizations.

After the successful hosting of the 1st Matlosana Cup, this event enjoyed sponsorship from the Matlosana local Municipality, Matlosana sports and recreation, and the Tower Mall management due to the great relationship that sempai Thomas enjoys with them and because both sempai Thomas and the sponsors shares the same objectives of community development through sports and recreation.

The 4th Matlosana Cup was held on the 07th March 2015 at the Tower Mall. The tournament was a success, attended by Shinkyokushinkai teams from Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The event also received support from other organizations from Gauteng and North West Provinces. This year we had 195 competitors participating in both junior and senior categories and more than 200 spectators packing the hall to capacity. The 4th Matlosana Cup tournament was sponsored by the Tower Mall management.

The 4th Matlosana Cup 2015 hosts and organizers led by semapi Thomas Mayekani, would like to extend their gratitude to the following officials from different provinces and the non-Shinkyokushinkai members for the hard work as officials and making the tournament a success.
